Although AMD’s RDNA 4 GPUs, set to power the Radeon RX 9000 series, have been announced, the company has yet to host a dedicated event to showcase them. However, AMD has confirmed that the first models in the RX 9070 series will hit shelves in March with robust availability.
This update comes directly from David McAfee, Vice President of AMD’s Ryzen CPU and Radeon GPU division, who tweeted the news.
“The Radeon 9000 series hardware and software look great, and we’re planning to have a wide variety of cards available globally. We can’t wait for gamers to get their hands on the cards when they go on sale in March!”
AMD’s stance is criticized
David McAfee’s tweet sparked significant criticism from users on the social platform X. Many questioned why AMD has yet to hold a formal announcement event for the new generation of graphics cards, breaking from their usual practice. Others voiced concerns about the March launch window after NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti debuted in February.
AMD’s Radeon RX 9000 series was initially revealed on January 6th during a closed-door presentation to the global press before the official start of CES 2025. In this preview, only the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT GPUs were unveiled, with a mention of the RX 9060 series but no specific SKUs detailed.
The limited slides shared during the event offered little information, omitting specifications and benchmarks. AMD positioned the new GPUs as competitors to NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 series. However, the presentation did not elaborate on even AMD’s much-anticipated FSR 4 (FidelityFX Super Resolution), which will incorporate AI technology for the first time—following in NVIDIA’s footsteps with DLSS.
