AMD Hawk and Strix Point mobile CPUs could be refreshed in 2025

By Aayush

Earlier this year, AMD introduced its Ryzen AI 300 series for notebooks, which have been on the market for several months. However, according to industry insider Golden Pig Upgrade, the “Strix Point” and “Hawk Point” CPUs are expected to get a refresh in 2025, launching alongside new enthusiast-level mobile series like “Krackan Point.”

While the unofficial roadmap doesn’t provide exact release dates, some details are starting to emerge. The updated Strix Point processors in the Ryzen AI 300 series will likely feature improved support for LPDDR5 memory, increasing speeds from 7,500 MT/s to 8,000 MT/s.

In addition, the Ryzen AI 300 series is set to expand with new SKUs, including the upcoming Krackan Point processors. These models will offer scaled-down versions of the original lineup, featuring fewer Zen 5 CPU cores and reduced RDNA 3.5 integrated GPU cores, targeting a broader range of mobile devices.

Notebooks with high-end Ryzen arrive between 2025 and 2026

What stands out in this rumor is the possible return of “Hawk Point,” a codename tied to the Ryzen 8040, which may be rebranded as the Ryzen 200 series if the leaks are accurate. Looking ahead to 2026, the Strix Point series is expected to receive another update, alongside a refresh of the Krackan Point lineup.

The Chinese insider also shared details about AMD’s plans for high-end mobile processors. The “Fire Range” series is said to feature SKUs with 3D V-Cache technology and integrated graphics based on RDNA 2. This lineup is anticipated to launch between 2025 and 2026, targeting premium notebooks.

At the top of the lineup is the “Strix Halo,” rumored to be the most powerful implementation of AMD’s Zen 5 architecture for laptops. It could feature up to 16 CPU cores and an integrated GPU boasting 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units, offering more than double the graphics capability of the current Ryzen AI 300 series.

AMD is expected to showcase these new products at CES 2025, scheduled from January 7th to 10th. The company will likely reveal parts of these new series, including the Ryzen 9000X3D processors and RDNA 4-based GPUs that will power the upcoming Radeon RX 8000 series.
