AMD isn’t giving up on the AM4 platform and is preparing to launch a new processor, the Ryzen 5 5500X3D. This information comes from a listing in the Eurasian Economic Union (ECC) customs database, discovered on Tuesday (13) by leaker @harukaze5719. This news follows closely after the release of the Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 7 5800XT, suggesting that the Ryzen 5 5500X3D might arrive soon.
If the rumors are correct, the Ryzen 5 5500X3D will be based on the Zen 3 architecture, featuring 96 MB of L3 cache and six cores with speeds between 3GHz and 4GHz. This should provide a single-thread performance similar to the eight-core Ryzen 7 5700X3D, which can reach up to 4.1GHz.
The key difference will likely be price. The Ryzen 5 5500X3D is expected to be AMD’s most affordable 3D V-Cache processor, with a price under $180, compared to the $210 price tag of the Ryzen 7 5700X3D.
Despite the aging AM4 platform and the newer Zen 4 and upcoming Zen 5 architectures, AMD might launch the Ryzen 5 5500X3D to support many AM4 motherboards still in use. This would make the Ryzen 5 5500X3D an appealing option for budget-conscious gamers.
However, this is still speculative. While the ECC listing suggests that the Ryzen 5 5500X3D plans are in motion, there’s no guarantee that the processor will be released. We’ll need to wait for official confirmation.
