A new rumor suggests that AMD is preparing to launch a fresh lineup of APUs for the AM5 platform—currently home to the Ryzen 7000, 8000G, and upcoming 9000 series—by the final quarter of 2025. While insider 9550Pro didn’t provide specifics, this could hint at the arrival of a potential Ryzen 9000G series or a similarly branded alternative.
With limited concrete details, speculation is all we have for now. AMD’s approach to APUs typically prioritizes the laptop market, where new generations are released more frequently. On the desktop side, the most recent APU lineup was the Ryzen 8000G, meaning a successor could be on the horizon.
Ryzen 9000g or another name?
Just like the Ryzen 7040 and 8040 series, the Ryzen 8000G lineup features Zen 4 cores paired with RDNA 3 graphics. The latest advancement in this area came with the Ryzen AI 300 series—also known as Strix Point—which introduced Zen 5 cores and RDNA 3.5 graphics. If AMD continues this trend, the next generation of desktop APUs could follow suit.
With the release of the Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 395, AMD significantly boosted integrated graphics performance by incorporating 40 compute units, delivering GPU power comparable to entry-level discrete graphics cards. If a Ryzen 9000G series does emerge, it could match or even exceed this level of performance, thanks to the larger thermal and power allowances of desktop processors.
However, there’s also a chance AMD will skip the 9000G naming entirely. Looking at recent history, the current 8000G lineup didn’t follow the 7000G naming convention but instead introduced its own distinct branding. For now, without official confirmation, all we can do is speculate on AMD’s next move.
