AMD may be gearing up for a refresh of its current Ryzen AI 300 “Strix Point” mobile APUs. Leaked slides from an LG presentation on upcoming notebooks suggest that new “Gorgon Point” chips will arrive in 2026 but with specifications similar to existing models in the market.
This has led to speculation that Gorgon Point could be a refreshed version rather than a completely new architecture. Most of the lineup appears to offer 50 AI TOPS, matching the capabilities of Strix Point and Strix Halo. However, two models stand out, promising to deliver over 55 AI TOPS, potentially offering a performance boost in AI-related tasks.
Ryzen Gorgon Point specifications and performance
Further evidence suggesting that Gorgon Point is a refresh rather than a completely new generation is its use of RDNA 3.5 graphics, XDNA 2 AI acceleration, and Zen 5 CPU architecture—all already present in the Ryzen AI 300 series. These upcoming “Mobile Point” APUs will target the premium segment and, as expected, will be optimized for Copilot+ AI capabilities.
Key Updates in the New Lineup:
- A 4-core Ryzen 3 SKU is introduced, offering 50 AI TOPS via dedicated AI accelerators.
- A 15W base TDP with a 45W maximum performance mode for higher workloads.
- Performance slides comparing a Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 SKU against the Ryzen AI 7 350 and Ryzen AI 9 370 show minimal improvements at 15W, slight single-core gains, and a 10% boost in multi-threaded performance.
Given these details, it’s uncertain whether this lineup will be positioned as a new Ryzen AI 400 series or simply a refresh under the Ryzen AI 300 branding. The industry often markets refreshed generations as new so that AMD may follow a similar strategy.
