Apple has confirmed that its AI system, Apple Intelligence, introduced at WWDC, will launch in beta in October, initially supporting only US English. The announcement was made during Monday’s iPhone 16 presentation event (9).
The AI technology will first be available in iOS 18.1 for users of the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and iPhone 16 Pro. Additionally, Macs and iPads with M1 chips or newer will also have access to Apple Intelligence’s features.
Gradual release of Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence, introduced at WWDC 2024 in June, is a “personal intelligence” system designed to enhance everyday tasks by adapting to each user’s context and experience. Key features include generating summaries of emails and notifications, as well as improving Siri’s capabilities, allowing it to understand less precise commands and assist with specific tasks on iPhones.
While Apple hasn’t fully detailed the October release features, rumors suggest that functions like notification and email summaries, along with a “Clean Up” tool for organizing photos, will be the first to launch. More advanced features, such as image generation tools like Genmoji and Image Playgrounds, are expected to arrive by December.
Apple confirmed during Monday’s iPhone 16 event that Apple Intelligence will be available in beta starting in October with iOS 18.1, initially supporting only US English.
The AI system will gradually expand to other languages, with localized versions of English for regions like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK coming in December. By 2025, Apple plans to introduce support for languages such as Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish.
