Apple might be accelerating the release of a new iPhone SE, updating its budget-friendly line of smartphones. Rumors indicate that Apple is running low on the current third-generation iPhone SE stock, hinting that a successor could be on the horizon.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is experiencing a shortage of accessories, including FineWoven cases, Apple Watch straps, and watches alongside the iPhone SE 3. This scarcity suggests two possibilities: either these products will soon be discontinued, or they’ll be refreshed with new versions.
The Apple Watch is expected to get new models during an event scheduled for September 9th, which might also see the iPhone SE 4 launch ahead of the previously speculated timeline of March to May 2025.
Historically, Apple has released a new iPhone SE every two years, with the SE 3 debuting in 2022 and the SE 2 in 2020. This makes a 2024 release for the SE 4 plausible.
Leaked information suggests that the iPhone SE 4 might feature:
- Larger Screen: Inspired by the iPhone 14’s design, the SE 4 could sport a 6.1-inch OLED display, a significant upgrade from the SE 3’s 4.7-inch screen, which was based on the iPhone 8.
- Notch and Face ID: The new model is expected to replace the large bezels with a more modern design, incorporating a notch and Face ID for facial recognition, moving away from the traditional Touch ID.
- USB-C: In line with other recent Apple devices, the iPhone SE 4 will likely adopt USB-C for charging and data transfer.
- Upgraded Camera: The SE 4 is rumored to feature an improved single rear camera, upgrading from 12 MP to 48 MP.
As the potential launch date approaches, more details about the iPhone SE 4 could emerge through leaks.
At the September 9th event, Apple is also anticipated to unveil the iPhone 16 series. Expected features include a new photo capture button, upgraded cameras for the Pro models, and a refreshed iPhone 16 and 16 Plus design.
