Google’s upcoming Pixel event is on August 13, but many details have surfaced before the official announcement. Along with the expected launch of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google might also introduce new products like the Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Watch 3. Additionally, new software and AI features could be revealed during the event.
The Pixel 9 series, including the standard Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, was leaked earlier this year, making these devices highly anticipated yet not entirely surprising.
New Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro phones
The Pixel 9 Pro will be available in two sizes: a larger 6.8-inch model and a smaller 6.3-inch model. Both versions will feature a triple-camera setup on the rear. Google’s official images reveal that both the Pixel 9 Pro and the standard Pixel 9 will undergo design updates, including straight edges and an oval camera module that aligns the rear cameras horizontally.
Regarding performance, rumors suggest the Pixel 9 Pro will be powered by a G4 Tensor chipset with 16 GB of RAM. The standard Pixel 9 is expected to use the same processor but will come with 12 GB of RAM.
Significant upgrades are also expected to be made to the camera systems. The Pixel 9 will likely feature a 50 MP primary sensor, a 48 MP ultrawide sensor, and a 10.5 MP front camera. The Pixel 9 Pro, on the other hand, will add a 48 MP telephoto lens to the mix and will boost the front camera’s resolution to 42 MP.
Both models may include Samsung’s Exynos 5400 modem, which enables satellite messaging and could feature an ultrasonic fingerprint reader embedded under the display.
As for colors, according to a leak by Even Blass (@evleaks), the Pixel 9 will come in obsidian (black), porcelain (beige), pink, and green. The Pixel 9 Pro will be available in charcoal (gray), porcelain (beige), pink, and hazelnut.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold will update the foldable line.
Google will also expand its presence in the foldable smartphone market with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold this year. The new model is rumored to be longer and thinner than last year’s version.
The design updates include a revamped rear camera module, which now accommodates three sensors: a 48MP primary sensor, a 10.5MP ultrawide sensor, and a 10.8MP telephoto sensor. The front camera is expected to feature a 10MP sensor.
Recent leaks suggest that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will have a 6.3-inch external display and an 8-inch internal display, making it larger than last year’s Pixel Fold, which featured a 5.8-inch external and a 7.6-inch internal display.
The phone is expected to be just 5.1 millimeters thick when unfolded and 10.5 millimeters when closed, with a nearly invisible hinge design that allows it to lay flat on a surface without any wobbling.
Under the hood, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is rumored to be powered by the same G4 Tensor chipset as the other Pixel 9 models and will come with 16GB of RAM.
As for color options, leaks by Even Blass suggest that the foldable will be available in porcelain (beige) and obsidian (black).
Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Watch 3 expected to appear at the event
In addition to the new smartphones, Google will announce the Pixel Buds Pro 2 headphones and the Pixel Watch 3 smartwatch at its upcoming event.
Pixel Buds Pro 2 Headphones:
Leaked images by user @OnLeaks suggest that the Pixel Buds Pro 2 will feature a small tab on the tip of each earbud, likely designed for a better fit. The headphones will be available in several colors, including gray, white, green, and pink. Although specific technical details are still under wraps, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 is anticipated to have a larger battery than the original Pixel Buds. They are also expected to retain key features like noise cancellation and multipoint connectivity.
Pixel Watch 3 Smartwatch:
The Pixel Watch 3 is rumored to come in two sizes: 41 mm and 45 mm. The smaller model is expected to have a screen that’s 10% larger than its predecessor. Other rumored upgrades include:
- A brighter display with up to 2,000 nits for better visibility in sunlight.
- An ultra-wideband (UWB) chip to enhance location tracking.
- A larger 310 mAh battery.
- 20% faster charging compared to the Pixel Watch 2.
Both Pixel Watch 3 models are expected to provide up to 24 hours of battery life with the always-on display mode or up to 36 hours with a new power-saving mode. Additional features may include offline support for Google Maps, enhanced controls when connected to Pixel phones, and the ability to view live feeds from Nest cameras directly on the smartwatch.
AI innovations and new weather forecast app
On the software side, Google is likely gearing up to introduce a new weather app that could bring several innovative features. These include notifications for weather changes, AI-powered weather summaries, detailed weather maps, and possibly more. This app aims to enhance the user experience by providing more accurate and timely weather information.
In addition, Google seems poised to follow in the footsteps of Samsung and Apple by incorporating more AI-driven tools into Pixel devices. One anticipated feature is “Pixel Screenshots,” which will allow users to organize their screenshots automatically based on categories like events, places, and people, making it easier to find specific images later.
