What’s new in Windows 11 Build 27686
Windows Sandbox Client Preview
Windows 11 Build 27686 introduces the new Windows Sandbox Client Preview, which updates directly from the Microsoft Store. This preview version includes several new features, such as the ability to redirect the clipboard, manage audio and video controls, and share folders with the host during runtime.
These options can be accessed by clicking the “…” icon at the top right corner of the app. Additionally, this build features the early stages of command line support, which you can explore using the “wsb.exe -help” command to see all available commands.
Changes and improvements
General
- Some features previously rolled out to Insiders in the Canary channel may have been removed as part of the shift to 27xxx builds. These features will return over time.
- They have included Optimizations to improve battery life on computers running Canary Channel Build 27686.
Configuration
This update features a button in the Settings app that simplifies unmounting virtual drives (VHD/VHDX). You can find this option in the Settings app by navigating to **Settings > System > Storage > Disks & Volumes** within the VHD/VHDX properties.
Networks
To assist Microsoft in assessing future network connectivity enhancements, your device might perform occasional background tests to gather diagnostic data. These tests will utilize minimal data (up to 10MB daily) and will only occur over Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections that aren’t designated as metered.
Storage
When formatting drives from the command line, FAT32 size limit has been increased from 32GB to 2TB.
Windows 11 Build 27686 Fixes

Lock screen
Fixed an issue where the battery icon displayed on the lock screen was out of sync with the actual battery level of the PC.
Windows Security
Fixed a bug in the Windows Security app where if you searched for networks in Firewall & Network protection, it would show a broken entry (a rectangle) next to the network name instead of the network icon.
Configuration
- Fixed an issue under Settings > System > Storage > Disks & Volumes where there was no space between the Create and Mount VHD buttons.
- Fixed an issue where the power mode option in Settings > System > Battery and Power was displayed in cases where the device cannot be charged.
- Fixed a bug where if you searched for Kiosk in Settings and tapped the result to set up Kiosk mode, it would not navigate to the appropriate page.
Others
Fixed an issue in the Registry Editor where when editing a DWORD or QWORD registry, if you pasted a HEX value into the text box and saved it, the saved value might not be the value you entered (for example, pasting 0x1 would become 0x411).
Known bugs
Suppose you switch to the Canary channel on a Copilot+ PC from the Dev, Release Preview, or Production channel. In that case, you may encounter an issue where your Windows Hello PIN and biometrics for PC sign-in become unavailable, displaying error code 0xd0000225 with the message, “Something happened, and your PIN is not available.” To resolve this, you need to regenerate your PIN.
Moreover, a problem has been identified where the emoticon panel closes when attempting to switch to the kaomoji and symbols page or after selecting an emoticon.
