OpenAI has rolled out new features for ChatGPT’s conversation mode, as announced in a post on X this Tuesday (24). The update introduces additional voice options to enhance user personalization and a refreshed interface.
The Advanced Voice feature is set to be available to subscribers of the Plus and Team plans “during the week.” According to the announcement, users can now say “Sorry, I’m late” in over 50 languages.
Eligible users will receive a notification when they access this mode for the first time, which was initially revealed in May. The app emphasizes that this mode enables “natural conversations” and can be tailored to individual preferences, using memory and personalized instructions to shape responses.
“You are in control,” states the app’s description, highlighting that voice recordings can be deleted at any time.
The update adds five new voice options to the existing four, although TechCrunch notes that the Sky voice, previously available, has been removed due to concerns over its resemblance to actress Scarlett Johansson.
Additionally, the interface now features a blue animated sphere instead of the previous black circles, making for a more visually engaging experience.
Limited access in Europe
Although OpenAI announced that the new advanced voice feature supports over 50 languages, it’s important to note that it isn’t accessible to everyone immediately.
The company has clarified that this feature is unavailable in the European Union and several other countries, including Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.
