OpenAI has reported a significant increase in the weekly user base of ChatGPT, with the number of active users doubling from 100 million in November 2023 to 200 million. This growth is largely credited to the introduction of new models in the GPT-4o family, making the tool more accessible and versatile for a broader audience.
Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, highlighted the transformative impact of AI on people’s everyday lives, stating that users are integrating these tools into their daily routines, enhancing areas like healthcare and education. Altman emphasized that AI aids with routine tasks, helps solve complex problems, and fosters creativity.
Moreover, OpenAI revealed that 92% of Fortune 500 companies are now using its products, underscoring the extensive adoption of AI in the corporate world. The usage of ChatGPT’s API has also seen a twofold increase since the launch of the GPT-4o mini model in July.
Competition close behind
While ChatGPT is experiencing significant growth, other AI platforms are also making strides in the market. Meta, for instance, recently celebrated a significant achievement with its AI model, Llama, which now boasts over 400 million monthly active users and 40 million daily active users.
Meta reports that the volume of Llama token usage among its top cloud service provider partners has more than doubled between May and July 2024 following the release of Llama 3.1. This surge highlights the increasing popularity and adoption of Meta’s AI technology.
As artificial intelligence becomes more mainstream, platforms like ChatGPT and Llama continually evolve and expand their features to stay competitive. Both are focused on regular updates and new integrations to enhance their offerings and attract more users.
