There’s also a simplified system for turning off website notifications and an upgraded Safety Check tool that runs in the background to keep your browser secure.
Automatic security
The Safety Check tool has received significant upgrades and now works smoothly across Android and desktop Chrome versions. On the desktop, it alerts users if they have potentially risky extensions installed, guiding them to the extension management page for quick removal options.
Moreover, Safety Check automatically removes permissions for websites that haven’t been visited recently, reducing the chance of security issues. For sites that misuse notifications or deceive users into granting access, the tool revokes these permissions automatically, helping to ensure safer browsing.
Canceling notifications
Another key update is the easier way to cancel website notifications. Pixel device users can now block unwanted notifications with just a single tap from the control panel. Google reports that this change has already resulted in a 30% decrease in the volume of notifications on these devices.
This feature will soon be rolled out to other Android devices, making it simpler for more users to manage and stop website notifications.
Single permission
Chrome has also introduced a new one-time permissions feature, which is now available on Android and desktop versions. This allows users to grant temporary website access for their camera, microphone, or location, but only for that specific session.
Once the website is closed, these permissions are automatically revoked, ensuring that sites can’t retain access to your information without your active consent.
