Copilot+ PCs with Windows 11 will receive new AI features starting in October

Microsoft has introduced a range of new experiences for Windows 11 and unveiled Copilot+ PCs, which directly integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the system. These next-gen devices are engineered to deliver a more powerful, intuitive, and secure user experience by utilizing AI natively.

Capable of performing over 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS), these PCs are optimized to enhance productivity and significantly boost processing power, allowing AI-driven tools and applications to run quickly and efficiently.

The standout feature, Recall, is designed to help users quickly access files, photos, or websites they’ve visited on their PC. Combining AI with advanced security measures like Windows Hello, Recall ensures that only authorized users can access this sensitive information. Additionally, Recall applies filters to protect sensitive data, ensuring private details such as credit card numbers or personal IDs stay secure.

Starting in October, Windows Insiders using Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs will begin seeing Recall in action. Recall will be available through the Insider program in November for those with Intel or AMD processors. General availability details will be shared later. After some early concerns about its safety, Recall is finally set to roll out.

Windows Search: more powerful than ever thanks to AI

Microsoft has enhanced Windows Search with AI, making it more intuitive and user-friendly. Now, users can search for files using casual descriptions without remembering exact file names. For instance, searching for a “wedding photo” will yield accurate results even if the photos aren’t named that way.

This feature extends to OneDrive with cloud integration, allowing users to locate photos by describing their content. Thanks to the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in Copilot+ PCs, which are capable of over 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS), this functionality works even without an internet connection.

This improved search will be available in File Explorer and expanded to Windows Search in the coming months.

Click to Do Preview

The Click to Do feature is designed to streamline workflows by adding an interactive layer on your screen, offering quick action suggestions based on the images or text you’re working with.

Click to Do integrates seamlessly with various tools, making tasks simpler. For instance, it might suggest Visual Search through Bing, help with blurring or removing objects from an image in Photos, or assist with background removal in Paint.

For text-based actions, it provides AI-powered features like rewriting, summarizing, explaining content, opening text in editors, sending emails, searching the web, or accessing URLs. This makes the AI more versatile, helping automate tasks.

The functionality adapts to the context and can be accessed on any Copilot+ PC by pressing the Windows key and clicking the mouse. More actions are expected to be added soon, further enhancing productivity and simplifying everyday user tasks.

Simplifying image rescaling

With this new high-resolution functionality in Photos, Microsoft is shaking up the market by making it easier to upscale and enhance old or low-resolution images—free of charge. This could potentially disrupt many services that charge for similar features, and it may even threaten platforms like Canva.

The Photos app will allow you to resize images

Now, users can enhance and reimagine old or distorted photos without losing quality when increasing their size. Thanks to on-device AI and the powerful NPU (Neural Processing Unit), users can precisely upscale images up to 8 times their original resolution, turning low-quality photos into high-quality memories. This process is not only precise but also incredibly fast, allowing you to scale an image up to 4K resolution in just seconds, all with no added cost.

Paint resurrects and is reborn with AI.

Paint has truly stood the test of time, surviving countless attempts to replace it—some even by Microsoft. It’s more powerful today, with new features like layers, a dark theme, and integrated AI tools.

Now, Paint takes another leap forward with generative fill and erase functions. With an adjustable brush, users can effortlessly remove unwanted elements from an image or add new ones exactly where needed.

The enhanced diffusion model running in the background ensures faster and higher-quality results. Plus, built-in moderation adds a layer of reliability, making the creative process smoother and more trustworthy than ever.
