Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has announced plans to create a game development studio under his AI-focused company, xAI. The studio will focus on producing games using artificial intelligence. Musk shared this ambition on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating that he intends to “make games great again.” In the same post, he expressed criticism of the gaming industry, particularly pointing out that many game studios have been acquired by large corporations, a trend he opposes.
However, Musk has not revealed many details about this venture. Information about the studio’s name, the specific games it will create, or the people involved is still unknown.
Up until now, Musk has only shared opinions about the gaming industry, and his involvement has been limited to playing games himself, not developing them. His most notable gaming-related achievement was setting a speedrun record in Diablo IV, although this feat has been met with some skepticism.
Elon Musk’s projects
Elon Musk, the owner of xAI, Tesla, SpaceX, and several other ventures, is also known for being a prominent supporter of the recently elected U.S. President, Donald Trump. Musk is expected to hold a role in Trump’s administration starting in 2025. Trump’s presidency has been marked by a favorable stance toward his allies, which could potentially provide Musk and his business interests—whether in gaming or other sectors—with significant opportunities.
In the gaming industry, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) is still somewhat controversial, primarily due to its association with generative AIs. However, major players like Ubisoft, NVIDIA, and Electronic Arts have already integrated AI into their projects.
Meanwhile, companies such as Embracer Group, Square Enix, and others are just beginning to explore the potential of this technology. Musk’s potential involvement in AI-driven gaming could help push these boundaries even further, particularly if his new studio focuses on harnessing AI in game development.
