Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has introduced two updated versions of its AI chatbot, Grok, on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter). The latest models, Grok-2 and Grok-2 Mini, now include image generation capabilities through AI and are currently available in beta for subscribers of X/Twitter Premium and Premium Plus plans.
Developed in collaboration with Black Forest Labs, Grok-2 utilizes the FLUX.1 AI model to produce images based on text prompts.

xAI, Elon Musk’s AI company, highlights Grok-2 as a major upgrade from Grok-1.5, noting its enhanced intuition, flexibility, and utility across tasks like information retrieval, collaborative writing, and coding assistance. Currently in Beta for X Premium subscribers, Grok-2 and Grok-2 Mini will soon be accessible through xAI’s enterprise API, enabling broader application integration.
Initial user feedback on the image generation feature points to creating contentious images, including political figures in sensitive contexts. This has sparked concerns about potential misinformation, as xAI has not yet clarified whether there will be mechanisms to flag AI-generated content.
Beyond image generation, Grok-2 is poised to bolster the X platform’s AI capabilities, including improved search, post analysis, and automated responses. Additionally, xAI plans to introduce a multimodal understanding mode that will merge text and images, enhancing the user experience on the X platform and through the API.
