Google is set to enhance the security of its Find My Device app by introducing biometric protection for accessing the app. This upcoming update aims to bolster security measures and prevent unauthorized access to device tracking settings, particularly during theft incidents.
The announcement was made by developer AssembleDebug in collaboration with Android Authority and was discovered in version 3.1.173-1 of the app. However, the biometric access feature is not yet available to users.
With this update, users can utilize fingerprint recognition or a PIN to access location information and settings, providing an alternative to the current method, which requires a Google account password. Additionally, Google will retain the option for users to bypass logging in on future access.
The update will also include interface improvements to make the app more user-friendly on Android tablets.
Android 15 improves and tweaks security.
Google has introduced several security enhancements in Android 15, particularly aimed at protecting critical operating system settings on Pixel devices. Users must now authenticate themselves before making significant changes, such as removing the SIM card or disabling the remote tracker.
Moreover, if multiple unsuccessful attempts are made to alter these settings, the device will automatically lock to prevent unauthorized access. This added layer of security is designed to safeguard users’ devices against potential tampering or theft.
