Epic Games has confirmed that the original Fortnite map, dubbed “Fortnite OG,” will be available permanently starting December 6, 2024.
This mode marks a true return to the game’s roots, following the overwhelming success seen in November when it was released temporarily for a limited time.
The launch of Fortnite OG was met with incredible enthusiasm. When the mode first dropped, the game set a new record, attracting 44.7 million players and racking up 102 million hours of playtime.
Noticing the strong demand for the classic map, Epic Games announced on its social media that this nostalgic experience will now be a permanent feature. The massive player engagement was simply too significant to overlook.
“OG is coming back and this time it will be here to stay. Relive the battle royale from the beginning and explore the OG map, collect OG loot and OG seasons. He will be back on December 6th.”
This move is part of Epic Games’ broader strategy to bring back a large player base to Fortnite. As part of this effort, the company has also introduced new features, including enhanced parental controls. These updates give parents the ability to manage playtime, set specific time windows for gaming, and access other useful functions to ensure a safer and more balanced gaming experience for kids.
Fortnite seeks what everyone wants.
Fortnite OG isn’t the only mode aiming to rekindle nostalgia among players—it’s part of a growing trend across the gaming industry that other studios are embracing as well.
For instance, Season 23 of APEX Legends recently added a mode that lets players “travel back in time” and experience the game as it was at its original launch in 2019. Similarly, Blizzard followed suit with the release of Overwatch: Classic today (12th), bringing back all the iconic elements of the first Overwatch game within Overwatch 2.
