After the disappointing experience with Qualcomm’s developer kit, which we had eagerly reserved, we found ourselves waiting for a manufacturer bold enough to create a desktop powered by Qualcomm’s new processors—something that could rival the Mac Mini. That wait might finally be over.
Geekom, a Chinese company known for its expertise in miniPCs, has already announced plans to launch its first desktop. Now, thanks to The Computer Bug, we have a glimpse of the specifications, and they’re enough to get us even more excited about this release.
Geekom QS1 Pro, the first Copilot+desktop PC
According to the Spanish outlet El Chapuzas Informático, which has obtained the specifications for this device, the details are quite impressive. The QS1 Pro will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon XE-80-100 processor paired with a GPU capable of delivering up to 4.6 TFLOPs of performance. It will also support up to 64GB of dual-channel LPDDR5-5600 RAM and offer storage options of up to 2TB with an M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 drive.
One intriguing aspect is the processor’s performance. Qualcomm’s documentation lists the XE-80-100 processor at 3.8 TFLOPs, while the X1E-84-100 variant reaches 4.6 TFLOPs. It’s unclear if this discrepancy is due to an error on Geekom’s part or if they’ve managed to boost performance by increasing the processor’s voltage. Since the QS1 Pro is a mini PC, it benefits from more effective cooling compared to a laptop, which might allow for such enhancements.
