GeForce RTX 4070 should be discontinued in January

By Aayush

The GeForce RTX 4070, currently the third most popular Ada Lovelace GPU according to Steam searches, is reportedly nearing the end of its production cycle. Information from Board Channels indicates that video card manufacturers have begun a stock-clearing process for the RTX 4070, with inventory expected to be fully depleted by the end of January.

This move suggests that NVIDIA might be making way for new products in its lineup, possibly from the RTX 50 series, as the company transitions its focus to newer GPUs. While the RTX 4070 has been well-regarded for its performance and price point, its discontinuation reflects the typical lifecycle of NVIDIA’s GPU lineup as it evolves to meet changing market demands.

Changes also in NVIDIA’s entry segment

Starting in February, NVIDIA’s partners are expected to stock only GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 GPUs, according to unofficial reports. However, these models are also anticipated to sell out quickly, potentially by the end of the first quarter of 2025.

For the mid-range Ada Lovelace GPUs, such as the RTX 4070, their successor has already been confirmed as the RTX 5070, which will take their place in the lineup. However, there’s still no official mention of a Blackwell successor for GPUs in the segment below, like the RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti. NVIDIA’s recent announcements have so far focused on high-performance and mid-range models, such as the GeForce RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070.

The discontinuation of existing GPUs as new generations launch is standard industry practice, allowing manufacturers to clear inventory and make room for upcoming products.

The RTX 50 series GPUs are set to debut on January 30th, starting with the flagship RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 models. As for the replacement for the RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Ti, NVIDIA has only stated that these models will arrive in February, though an exact release date has not been provided.

It’s worth noting that the RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti will not feature NVIDIA’s Founders Edition reference cooler design, unlike the high-end RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. Instead, these mid-range GPUs will only be available through NVIDIA’s partner manufacturers, ensuring a variety of third-party designs for consumers.
