NVIDIA is reportedly preparing to discontinue the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, launched in early 2024 as the second most powerful graphics card in the company’s lineup. This move is being made to clear the way for the upcoming RTX 5090 and RTX 5080.
According to details leaked on the Board Channels platform, the RTX 4080 Super production is expected to cease in October, with NVIDIA limiting the card supply starting in November. The aim is to reduce, or possibly eliminate, its stock by February 2025.
This rumor aligns with NVIDIA’s broader strategy, which includes scaling back the production and availability of the GeForce RTX 4090. Stocks of this top-tier model were suddenly reduced in September, and it has already become scarce in some countries, such as Germany.

The discontinuation of the GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 Super supports the theory that NVIDIA is gearing up for the simultaneous release of the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. These next-generation GPUs are expected to target the enthusiast market and set new performance benchmarks. Keeping the current high-end models available alongside them would create internal competition in an already niche market, which is why retiring the older models makes strategic sense.
While NVIDIA has not officially confirmed when it will announce the new GeForce RTX 50 series, it is widely expected that the company will unveil them during CES 2025, scheduled for January 7–10. If these predictions hold, the new GPUs could be released as early as February 2025, marking the start of a new era in graphics performance.
