Gmail has introduced a new feature called “Polish,” which enhances its AI-powered “Help Me Write” tool. This update, available on the web and on Android and iOS, allows users to refine their email drafts effortlessly.
With “Polish,” users can transform basic drafts into more polished or formal texts with just a click. Once you type 12 or more words into an email, you’ll see a “Refine my draft” option. This lets you polish, formalize, elaborate, shorten the text, or create a new draft.
The feature is available to those with a Google Workspace account, including the Gemini add-on or a Google One AI Premium subscription. By default, the new email refinement options are enabled, and no additional permissions or oversight from account administrators are required.
Shortcuts for AI tools in Gmail
In addition to the new polishing feature, Gmail has introduced shortcuts directly within the email body to streamline access to writing tools. You’ll see a “Help me write” shortcut for empty drafts that suggests text options. The “Refine my draft” option provides the tools to enhance the text for drafts with existing content.
The AI-powered writing tools, known as Gemini, were first rolled out to users in June. These new features are available to Google Workspace and Google One AI Premium subscribers. Google One AI Premium, which also includes access to Gemini Advanced.
