The Pixel Buds Pro 2 was unveiled at Google’s event on Tuesday (13), featuring several upgrades. For the first time, these headphones include Google’s custom Tensor A1 chip, which enhances active noise cancellation (ANC) and introduces new AI capabilities.
Compared to their predecessors, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 are lighter and smaller. Each earbud now weighs just 4.7 grams, down from 6.2 grams, and includes an adjustable stabilizing tab for a better fit. The package comes with four pairs of ear tips in different sizes for a customizable fit.
The earbuds feature an 11 mm driver and the new Tensor A1 chip, which processes sounds 90 times faster than the speed of sound. This chip allows for:
- Detection of external noises and conversations.
- ANC is twice as powerful as the previous model.
- Simplified multipoint connectivity with Pixel devices (phones, tablets, and smartwatches).
- Longer battery life.
- Spatial audio.
- Voice integration with Google’s AI assistant, Gemini.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 offer up to 30 hours of use with the charging case, and up to 8 hours on a single charge. A 15-minute charge in the case provides 3 hours of use. The Tensor A1 chip also enables “multi-path processing,” which lets the earbuds deliver clearer sound by bypassing ANC processing for music playback.
Additional features include Bluetooth 5.4 with LE Audio and Super Wideband, IP54 certification for sweat and water resistance, and a case with a built-in speaker for locating the earbuds via the Find My Device network.
The headphones support a unique feature called Gemini Live, allowing you to activate the AI chatbot with voice commands even when your phone’s screen is off.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 comes in several color options for the earbuds, including wintergreen (green), porcelain (beige), hazel (ash), and peony (pink), but the case is available only in white.
