Years later, Lumias and Windows phones still influenced Android phone makers. Google, with the launch of the Pixel 9, has decided to borrow one of its standout photography features.
This feature is the user interface from the Nokia Camera app for taking panoramic photos. In the Google Pixel 9, it’s called Panorama Mode, but the concept remains largely the same.
Lumias are still the benchmark in photography, and the Google Pixel 9 is proof of that.
When mobile photography was at a standstill, Lumia phones, particularly models like the Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520, made a significant impact. These devices were game-changers for photography enthusiasts, who flocked to Windows Phone primarily for its exceptional camera app, Nokia Camera.
Today, Google aims to lead the photography scene with the Pixel 9. It’s no surprise that they’ve taken inspiration from Nokia Camera’s panoramic photography feature and integrated it into their latest devices.
As shown in the video above, the new interface on the Pixel 9 is strikingly similar to what we used to see on the old Lumias with Windows Phones. Instead of dragging the phone to capture a panoramic image, the Pixel 9 uses a series of dots and a guide to help users align different shots stitched together into a single panoramic photo.
This feature might have flown under the radar during a presentation heavily focused on Artificial Intelligence. Still, for those who once used Windows Phones, it was a nostalgic moment when they recognized a familiar tool in Google’s new lineup.
