Google will use AI to Organize Search Results

Google announced today (October 3) several updates to its mobile search engine, introducing a new AI-powered way of organizing search results. In certain cases, the traditional list of links will be replaced with a more structured format, where results are grouped into different frames based on the search context. These AI-organized results will feature a label “Organized with AI,” providing a more visually engaging and user-friendly experience.

This feature is being tested in the U.S. and is limited to recipe and culinary-related searches. For instance, if you search for “vegetarian appetizer ideas,” Google will organize the results into panels categorized by themes such as “easiest recipes” or “most popular.” Each panel includes links, recipe images, user reviews, and an option to save the suggestions, making it easier for users to explore options visually and interactively.

Additionally, Google has announced updates for its Lens feature and new ad formats in the summaries, further enhancing how users engage with content. These updates shift how search results are presented, aiming to make search more intuitive and organized for mobile users.

Ads in the search for generative AI

Google has introduced a new feature where ads will be integrated into generative AI summaries within search results. These ads will be marked as sponsored content and provide product recommendations relevant to the user’s search query.

For example, if someone searches for information on how to remove grass stains from clothes, the AI-generated text will offer common suggestions and may also promote cleaning products. The product ads will appear as users scroll through the AI-generated content alongside links to the sources.

This change was initially announced in May 2023, and it has started rolling out in the United States. Along with this update, Google has also refined the visual design of its AI-generated summaries. Fonts are now highlighted differently, and it’s easier to access original links within the summaries, thanks to more visible icons that enhance readability and navigation.

What’s new in Multimodal Search

Google has also introduced new features for its Lens image search and “Search with Circle” tools. Now, users can search not only with images but also videos, making it easier to find specific products in the store tab.

Additionally, the search tool on mobile screens has gained the ability to identify songs, similar to how Shazam works, allowing users to search for music through audio recognition.

These tools are currently available only in English. However, has received a notable update: Gemini Live, a voice conversation feature with Google’s chatbot, is now available in English and other languages for Android users as of this Thursday. This marks an important step in expanding Google’s AI accessibility to non-English speaking regions.
