A former Rockstar Games employee has revealed that GTA 6 may not run at 60 FPS on the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, with the studio likely focusing on achieving 30 FPS. He also believes that reaching 60 frames per second might only be possible on the PS5 Pro.
During an appearance on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, Mike York, a former animator at Rockstar, shared his insights, explaining that based on his experience working with the studio, he doesn’t expect the game to hit 60 FPS on current-gen consoles. However, he remains hopeful that the game will achieve this performance on a future PC version.
“I don’t know if they will be able to reach 60 FPS. I believe they will direct to 30 fixed fps, which means it will not fall from this brand. I can bet that in the future, when it reaches the PC, it will probably be optimized and changed to the new graphic standard. It is possible to reach the 60 fps at this time, ”reveals York.
According to the former Rockstar employee, GTA 6 might only reach 60 FPS on current-gen consoles if we’re talking about the PS5 Pro. He believes that this could be achievable with the support of upscaling software like PSSR.
However, he emphasizes that this is just a hypothesis, and there’s no way to know for sure how the game will perform on different consoles until it’s officially shown.
GTA 6 information is missing
Since the official GTA 6 trailer was released in December 2023, Rockstar has yet to provide any additional public information about the game. We know only a few details, such as the game’s narrative, its scheduled launch for 2025, and its availability on PS5 and Xbox Series platforms.
However, rumors and alleged leaks have circulated, offering potential clues about the game’s release. One store accidentally revealed that GTA 6 could launch on September 17, 2025, while other sources suggest a potential delay into 2026—though there’s still some hope for an earlier release.
A market analyst has also speculated that GTA 6 might be priced higher than the current standard, possibly ranging between $80 and $100—a trend that could extend to other major game releases. However, neither Rockstar nor Take-Two Interactive have confirmed any of these details.
