Rockstar Games has reaffirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 remains scheduled for a fall 2025 release on consoles. However, there is still no official announcement regarding a PC version, raising concerns that players on this platform may have to endure a long wait—potentially months or even years.
More than a year has passed since the record-breaking GTA 6 trailer premiered on YouTube. Since then, Rockstar has provided a more specific release window but has remained silent on a PC launch. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, did not address the matter in its latest financial report.
During a Q&A session following the report, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged that while the fall release remains on track, unforeseen delays are always a possibility.
“We believe that arrogance is the enemy of continued success,” Zelnick stated. “We run scared. We’re looking over our shoulder. Our competitors are not asleep. And so what do we do about that? We try to be the most creative, the most innovative, and the most efficient company in the entertainment industry. And Rockstar Games, in particular, seeks perfection in everything they do. And we believe that if we do that right, and we focus on delivering for consumers, that’s our best opportunity to succeed.”
The anticipation for GTA 6 has reached an all-time high, with Zelnick teasing that the game will provide an unprecedented experience. Rockstar’s David Manley echoed this sentiment at the Game Awards, describing the game as featuring “mind-blowing things.”
PC Gamers Left in Limbo
The lack of PC-related news has frustrated many, especially given the platform’s growing popularity and hardware superiority over current-generation consoles. A former Rockstar developer revealed that the delay in PC releases is a deliberate strategy, prioritizing console sales first. Additionally, the complexity of optimizing a game for multiple PC configurations requires extensive testing, which contributes to the wait time.
Rockstar’s track record with PC ports suggests that a lengthy delay is likely. GTA 3 took seven months to arrive on PC, while San Andreas and GTA 4 followed eight months after their console launches. The most significant gap was with GTA 5, which took nearly two years. Even Red Dead Redemption 2 saw a delay of over a year before its PC debut.
Industry Impact and Pricing Speculation
With GTA 6 expected to dominate the gaming landscape upon release, other publishers are hesitant to launch major titles around the same time. Meanwhile, industry analysts speculate that the game could set a new pricing benchmark, potentially retailing for as much as $100—an increase that could influence the broader market.
Beyond GTA 6, Take-Two has confirmed upcoming releases, including Mafia: The Old Country in the summer of 2025 and Borderlands 4 before the year’s end. However, there is still no update on the release date for Judas, the highly anticipated game from BioShock creator Ken Levine.
While console players can look forward to GTA 6 this fall, PC gamers must wait for further announcements, hoping Rockstar won’t repeat the extended delays seen with its previous titles.
