After using Instagram for some time, your feed can become crowded with posts from various accounts, making navigating and enjoying your experience harder. Fortunately, Instagram offers several features that can help you declutter your feed.
Here are six useful tips to help clean up and organize your Instagram feed on both Android and iPhone (iOS):
Clean Up Your Instagram Feed
1. Add profiles to “Favorites”
Instagram now lets you choose between two ways to view your feed. The “Following” option chronologically displays posts from your accounts, with the newest posts at the top.
On the other hand, the “Favorites” option focuses on showing content from the accounts you care about the most. It doesn’t include suggested posts; you can add up to 50 profiles to your favorites list. Only you can see who’s on your list.
2. Use the “Not Interested” feature
Instagram frequently suggests posts and accounts to follow in various app parts, including your feed, Explore page, and Reels. While this feature is automatic and can’t be disabled, you have some control over what you see.
If a post doesn’t interest you, tap the “Not Interested” option. This will remove the post from your feed, and Instagram will adjust to show fewer similar posts in the future.
3. Only follow those who matter
To keep your Instagram feed more organized, being selective about who you follow is helpful. Focus on following people you know or engage with regularly. Reducing the number of accounts you follow will create a cleaner and more manageable home screen.
You can also consider unfollowing those who don’t follow you back, as their posts may contribute to a cluttered timeline. Regularly reviewing your connections and keeping only the ones that truly matter can help maintain a more meaningful and streamlined Instagram experience.
4. Adjust the display of sensitive content
Instagram now openly allows explicit or sensitive content, but occasionally, posts that may be upsetting or offensive can still appear, even if they don’t violate Instagram’s Community Guidelines.
To address this, Instagram provides a feature to help you manage sensitive content. While this won’t completely remove such posts from your feed, it allows Instagram’s algorithms to adjust and show you less content you’d rather avoid.
5. Mute unwanted accounts
If you want to keep someone as a follower but prefer not to see their posts, muting them on Instagram is a great option. By muting, their posts will no longer appear in your feed, while your interactions, such as likes, comments, and messages, remain private.
Unlike blocking or restricting, muting is a more subtle way to manage your feed without altering your relationship with the person.
6. Activate “Snooze” mode
Instagram also has a Snooze mode, which functions similarly to muting but is designed for posts from accounts you don’t follow but have interacted with recently.
With Snooze mode, you can block posts from a specific profile for 30 days. To activate it, tap the “X” icon in the top right corner of a suggested post, then choose “Enable Snooze mode for all suggested posts in the feed for 30 days.” This will help you avoid seeing posts from that account without completely unfollowing or blocking them.
