Huawei appears to be pushing the boundaries of smartphone design with its upcoming three-part foldable device, as new images have emerged showing the phone from various angles. These images provide a clearer view of the smartphone’s design, including what it looks like when folded and the layout of its back.
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business division, was seen holding the device, which boasts a remarkably thin construction across its three sections. This design allows the phone to be as slim as traditional smartphones when folded, a significant engineering achievement that mirrors earlier prototypes from Samsung.
The rear design of this new foldable is similar to the Huawei Mate X5 series, featuring a centralized, circular camera module. To maintain such a slim profile, the phone likely uses advanced silicon-carbon battery technology, which can store more energy in a smaller space.
Other anticipated features include a 10-inch screen when fully opened, putting it on par with many tablets in size. The device is expected to be powered by a Kirin processor, which Huawei has developed in-house.
Although Huawei has not yet released official information about this foldable smartphone, speculation suggests that the company could unveil it soon, possibly ahead of the Mate 70 series, which is slated for a year-end release. This follows the recent launch of the Nova Flip, Huawei’s flip-style foldable designed to compete with models like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6.
