Apple has confirmed that the final version of iOS 18 will be released on Monday, September 16. This announcement was made during today’s (9) event, unveiling the new iPhone 16 models. With this update, all eligible iPhones will access new customization options for the home screen and enhanced security features, such as the ability to hide and protect apps with sensitive data.
First introduced at WWDC 2024 in June, iOS 18 will bring various new features, including the much-anticipated Apple Intelligence, an AI-driven suite similar to Galaxy AI. However, the “supercharged Siri” and other advanced AI features will not roll out until iOS 18.1, set to launch in October.
One of the major updates in iOS 18 is the ability for users to fully customize their home screen icons with a color palette of their choice. For added privacy, users can now block access to sensitive apps—such as banking or photo galleries—using biometrics, and even hide them in a concealed folder for extra security.
The Control Center has also been revamped, allowing users to create dedicated pages for specific functions. Meanwhile, the Photos app has been updated to offer a more streamlined experience.
iPadOS 18, which will be released on the same day as iOS 18, also introduces similar improvements for iPads. It notably adds a native calculator app that allows users to perform calculations by writing with the Apple Pencil.
In addition, watchOS 11 will also be released next Monday for eligible Apple Watch models, bringing new features and updates to the wearable lineup.
