Apple is set to unveil new Mac computers and notebooks in October, featuring the latest M4 chips. According to journalist Mark Gurman, the upcoming Mac Mini might sport a much smaller design than previous models, possibly approaching the size of an Apple TV.
Gurman notes that this will be the first major redesign of the Mac Mini since 2010. The new version is said to come in two varieties: one with the M4 chip, similar to the latest iPad Pro, and another with the new M4 Pro chip.
Currently, the Mac Mini has a metal body measuring 19.7 cm wide, 3.6 cm deep, and weighing 1.2 kg. In contrast, the Apple TV 4K measures 9.3 cm in width and depth, 3.1 cm in height, and weighs just 208 grams.
While it’s unclear how closely the new Mac Mini will resemble the Apple TV 4K, it is expected to retain a metal finish.
In 2021, there was speculation about a new Mac Mini with an ultra-compact design and an Apple Silicon processor, featuring metal sides and a glass top with multiple ports. However, this rumored design never materialized, suggesting it may have been scrapped.
We should learn more about the new Mac Mini models as October approaches, with details expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
