At the Meta Connect event on Wednesday (25), CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced a new voice command feature for Meta AI, enabling users to interact with the AI without typing, similar to Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri. This update will allow users to make verbal requests, such as asking for the weather, within Meta’s chatbot on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, or Messenger.
However, it will initially only be available in Australia, Canada, the United States, and New Zealand starting in October.
Meta AI will also offer a selection of celebrity voices for English-speaking users, including:
- Awkwafina
- Dame Judi Dench
- John Cena
- Keegan-Michael Key
- Kristen Bell
In addition to voice support, the chatbot has become multimodal, using the Llama 3.2 model to understand images. U.S. users can now send photos to Meta AI and request edits or ask questions about the image. For instance, users can share a picture of a cake and ask for a recipe, with the AI providing step-by-step instructions in response.
Personalized chats and reel translation
In addition to the Meta AI updates, Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook, introduced AI Studio, a new platform for creating personalized chatbots. They also announced a voice dubbing feature for Reels videos, which will initially be available to select creators in Latin America and the United States, supporting English and Spanish languages.
