Microsoft Edge, the widely used browser by Microsoft, has continuously evolved since its inception. After two years of introducing a crucial feature in its desktop version, Edge for smartphones is now undergoing a significant update to enhance user experience and online security.
What is Edge Web Typo Protection
The new “Web Typo Protection” feature in Microsoft Edge is designed to enhance security by alerting users when they enter a URL incorrectly, potentially leading to a malicious site. This feature is now available in the smartphone version of Edge, following its implementation in the desktop version two years ago.
Microsoft has added “website typo protection” to Edge for Android (Dev and Canary), so if you misspell a website address, Edge will show you a warning:https://t.co/zyIqtqQRcL pic.twitter.com/LizyKfy8Dr

To enable this feature, users can navigate to the browser settings and find the “Typing Error Protection” option under Privacy & Security. When enabled, Edge will warn users if they’ve misspelled a site address and could be directed to a potentially harmful site.
If a user chooses to proceed despite the warning, they’ll receive a message reminding them of the potential error. They can then confirm the URL spelling, continue to the site without blocking it, or visit the suggested URL instead.
While this feature may seem minor, it protects against scammers who often use spoofed URLs to steal personal information. Similar functionality has been introduced in Google Chrome’s recent major update, where autocomplete corrects typing errors even for heavily misspelled words.
