Even though Windows 10 is no longer Microsoft’s latest operating system, the company continues to support its users by rolling out updates to fix issues and enhance functionality.
Recently, Microsoft acknowledged reports from users experiencing trouble uninstalling or updating certain packaged apps, such as Microsoft Teams. In response, the company has now shared a solution to address this issue, ensuring a smoother experience for those still using Windows 10.
Microsoft releases update to fix error 0x80073CFA in Windows
According to reports from Bleeping Computer, Microsoft not only began addressing the issue causing errors when uninstalling or updating packaged apps on Windows 10, but also revealed the root of the problem. The issue stemmed from a bug in the WinAppSDK 1.6.2 package within Windows 10 version 22H2.
This glitch primarily affected users who had installed this package, resulting in the 0x80073CFA error, which prevented certain apps from being uninstalled.
To mitigate the issue, Microsoft initially pulled the problematic WinAppSDK 1.6.2 package to stop further users from encountering the error. On Friday, the company released the KB5046714 update, which provided a straightforward fix to resolve the issue.
Microsoft also shared an alternative solution for users who prefer not to install cumulative updates on their primary devices—though a bit more complex. Affected users are advised to install the WinAppSDK 1.6.3 package update three times, replacing the preview version, to eliminate the issue.
While this method may not be the fastest or easiest, it’s an option for those who avoid installing cumulative updates. It’s encouraging to see Microsoft prioritizing fixes for Windows 10, an operating system that remains widely used and relevant today.
