In July, Microsoft announced that the new Outlook for Windows would be available to commercial users starting August 1st. That date has arrived, and Microsoft has declared that the new Outlook app for Windows has reached general availability (GA) for businesses.
The new Outlook is now available for businesses.
Although the new Outlook app for Windows has reached the General Availability (GA) stage, it remains an opt-in experience for businesses that prefer to continue using the classic Outlook app. However, those who switch to the new Outlook will now receive full support from Microsoft.
Microsoft has highlighted several benefits for businesses using the new Outlook app. According to a survey by Forrester Consulting, users of the new app can expect to reduce support tickets by 65% compared to the classic version. Additionally, the survey showed that customers anticipate a 27% reduction in energy and storage costs with the new application.
The next phase in transitioning from the classic app to the new Outlook will be when Microsoft makes the switch an opt-out experience. Although there is no specific timeline for this change, Microsoft has assured businesses that they will receive a 12-month advance notice before it happens.
However, significant improvements are needed to make the new Outlook the default. Currently, the app does not support sending messages with IMAP accounts, and its performance is lacking. Microsoft must address these issues to ensure Outlook remains the leading email client.
