Apple’s “Its Glowtime” event, happening this Monday (09), may surprise attendees with the announcement of a new generation of AirPods Max, according to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman. This is an unexpected development, as previous pre-launch rumors did not hint at the product’s debut.
Interestingly, Gurman himself had earlier dismissed the possibility, citing Apple’s large inventory of the first-generation AirPods Max. However, updated information suggests a different scenario, with the new version potentially arriving sooner than anticipated.
The second-generation AirPods Max is expected to place a stronger emphasis on audio performance, including enhanced active noise cancellation (ANC) and adaptive audio features that automatically adjust sound settings based on the environment. While the first-gen model received praise for its sound quality and ANC, it was criticized for its high price, especially in markets like Brazil.
A key update for Gen 2 is likely to be the shift from the Lightning port to USB-C, aligning with Apple’s broader transition to the port following European regulations. Design changes are expected to be minimal, with potential new color options, but the overall structure will likely remain the same.
In addition to the AirPods Max, the event is also expected to introduce the AirPods 4, which could replace both the AirPods 2 and 3, covering a range of price points.
The event will also showcase products from other categories, including the iPhone 16 lineup and new Apple Watch models. It kicks off at 2 PM, with full coverage of the launches to follow.
