NVIDIA has announced updates for its GeForce NOW game streaming service, set to take effect on January 1, 2025.
One key change is the introduction of a playtime limit. Previously, users could play without any time restrictions, but starting next year, usage will be capped at 100 hours per month. According to NVIDIA, only 6% of its users currently surpass this limit, so it doesn’t anticipate major disruptions.
In addition, subscribers will be able to roll over up to 15 unused hours to the following month (though these hours won’t accumulate beyond that). This should give users more flexibility for longer gaming sessions. If players need more time, they can also purchase extra blocks of 15 hours.
The “Priority” subscription tier is also getting a revamp and will be renamed “Performance.” The subscription fee will remain the same, but it will now include support for 1440p resolution, ultrawide displays, and the option to save graphics settings across all gaming sessions.
NVIDIA reduces hours to avoid raising prices
NVIDIA explains that the new playtime limit is intended to help maintain current subscription prices and avoid potential price hikes in the near future.
The company also clarified that founding members of NVIDIA GeForce NOW will not be impacted by this change. As long as they keep their subscriptions active, they will continue to enjoy unlimited playtime.
“No, founding members will continue to have unlimited time access forever, as long as you maintain your subscription”, informs the streaming service’s FAQ
NVIDIA is also running a 25% discount promotion on day passes for the Ultimate and Performance plans, available until November 22nd. Users can choose to upgrade their GeForce NOW subscriptions on a monthly or semi-annual basis, allowing them to enjoy the service for up to a year without the 100-hour monthly playtime limit.
