Steam’s latest hardware survey suggests that the reign of the GeForce RTX 3060 as the most popular GPU among PC gamers might be nearing its end. Surprisingly, its likely successor is not a desktop GPU but the mobile version of the RTX 4060. In November, the gap between the RTX 3060 and the RTX 4060 Mobile shrank to just 0.11%.
The RTX 3060 experienced a significant decline of 0.73% in November, marking its steepest drop in recent months. Meanwhile, the desktop version of the RTX 4060 also lost ground, decreasing by 0.23%, but the RTX 4060 Mobile surged ahead with a 0.60% increase. This rapid growth has put it almost on par with the RTX 3060.
If this trend continues through December 2025, the RTX 4060 Mobile could begin as the new leader among GPUs used by Steam gamers. This would be unusual, as NVIDIA’s entry-level desktop GPUs have traditionally dominated this ranking for years.
Growth of AMD and the emergence of Intel Arc
On AMD’s front, the Radeon RX 6600 saw a modest 0.07% growth, maintaining its position as the Red Team’s top-performing dedicated GPU. However, AMD’s older integrated graphics still outperform it in popularity.
A notable update from Steam’s latest survey is the first-ever inclusion of an Intel Arc GPU. Unfortunately, the survey doesn’t specify the model, as all Intel GPUs are grouped under “Intel Arc,” making it unclear whether this includes desktop or mobile versions.
The next Steam hardware survey is set to be released just before CES 2024 when NVIDIA and AMD are expected to unveil their next-gen GPUs — the RTX 50 series and RX 8000 series, respectively. Meanwhile, Intel appears to be moving ahead of the competition, with its Arc Battlemage lineup rumored to launch this week.
