Samsung has scheduled its annual Samsung Developers Conference (SDC) for October 3. This event might see the introduction of the stable version of One UI 7, based on Android 15, with a potential public release later in the month. Last year, the company unveiled One UI 6 at the conference, and it’s expected that the same could happen this time.
SDC 2024 will take place in San Jose, USA, and will highlight software innovations for developers. Typically, Samsung uses this event to reveal the new generation of its interface for smartphones and tablets, with the update usually becoming available for download a few days later.
For example, last year, Samsung introduced One UI 6 at the conference on October 5. In some regions, the update was rolled out starting October 30 for the Galaxy S23 series.
While there’s no official confirmation yet about One UI 7, rumors suggest it has developed since at least May. The update is expected to first be available on the Galaxy S24 series and potentially on new devices like the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6, which might be announced at the Galaxy Unpacked event in July.
One UI 6.1.1
Before the significant update to One UI 7, Samsung is anticipated to release One UI 6.1.1, an update based on Android 14. A leaker has suggested that this patch will be available in August and might introduce new AI features for compatible devices.
What to expect from One UI 7
Early details hint that One UI 7 might introduce a new way to password-protect apps, distinct from the current Secure Folder, and offer an alternative to opening the app drawer vertically. However, Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed these features yet.
Additionally, One UI 7 is expected to include features confirmed for Android 15, such as satellite messaging, Bluetooth Auracast support, a tool for sharing parts of the screen, and enhanced theft protection.
