The OneDrive team has been working hard, and it’s no surprise given that Microsoft’s cloud storage service is one of the most widely used globally, with users constantly expecting more. Recently, OneDrive has seen design improvements and the integration of Copilot among its various features.
However, the most eagerly awaited update is the introduction of colored folders—a small but significant enhancement for many users.
OneDrive is renewed with colorful folders. Discover how to use them
During a recent OneDrive event, Microsoft announced several exciting new features. The OneDrive app has finally received long-awaited updates, including an enhanced search function and colorful folders in File Explorer.
A key feature is the integration of XAML code in File Explorer, which syncs these changes across devices, so users can edit folder colors directly from Windows 11 without needing to access their smartphone or the web. However, in our testing, the colored folders seem to be available only for OneDrive for Business accounts at the moment.
Additionally, OneDrive now prioritizes highlighting photos, and its search functionality has become more intuitive, allowing users to search using everyday language. For instance, you can type something like “Sofia and her dog,” and OneDrive will automatically display relevant photos.
Another useful feature is the ability to automatically back up photos from your smartphone to OneDrive and even import images from other cloud services like Google Drive and Dropbox. The platform has also improved sharing capabilities, enabling users to share high-resolution images with others, even if they don’t use OneDrive.
