Photoshop AI will identify and remove distractions in images

By Aayush

Adobe Photoshop introduced a new “Distraction Removal” tool that leverages generative AI to automatically detect and remove unwanted elements from image backgrounds. Announced at the Adobe Max conference on October 14, this tool is designed to identify potential distractions—like wires, people, or objects—and offers a one-click solution to eliminate them.

While Photoshop already has AI-powered tools for object removal, the key difference with “Distraction Removal” is its ability to automatically pinpoint elements that could detract from the photo’s quality. This enhances the editing workflow by making it faster and more intuitive.

This new feature is being rolled out for the Photoshop desktop app and the web version, and it utilizes Adobe’s most advanced generative AI technology, the Firefly Image Model 3.

At the Adobe Max conference, Adobe introduced a new tool in Photoshop called “Generative Workspace“, designed to simplify creative workflows using AI. This feature allows users to quickly generate multiple image variations for specific tasks.

For example, a designer working on an advertisement could ask Photoshop to generate several flowery background templates with varying colors and patterns, making it easier to find the perfect option for their project.

Adobe also revealed the Substance 3D Viewer, an app that lets users manage 3D objects and visualize how they will appear in 2D Photoshop files. This tool, currently in Beta, is available for download through Creative Cloud in multiple languages, including German, French, English, and Japanese.

In addition, Adobe announced updates for video creation with AI. Using the Firefly AI engine, users can now generate videos, and in Premiere Pro, there’s a new AI tool for extending short video clips**, enabling users to seamlessly create longer content. These updates aim to enhance creativity across both image and video editing workflows.
