Qualcomm says upcoming Snapdragon X CPUs will have 3rd Gen Oryon cores

By Aayush

Qualcomm has shared new details about its upcoming Snapdragon X processors, revealing that they are slated for release in 2025 and will feature 3rd Generation Oryon cores.

While tentatively named “Snapdragon,” this 3rd generation is specifically designed for notebooks and mini PCs. Although no benchmark figures or additional specifications have been provided yet, Qualcomm has promised even more significant advancements compared to previous generations.

The 1st Generation Oryon cores, used in the Snapdragon X Elite processors, were aimed at AI-powered PCs and carried Microsoft’s “Copilot+ PC” certification. The 2nd Generation improved on this with 30% better performance and a remarkable 57% boost in energy efficiency.

If Qualcomm can achieve even greater gains with the 3rd Generation, it could lead to a substantial leap in productivity and power for notebooks and mini PCs equipped with these CPUs, setting a new standard for performance in portable computing.

When will the Snapdragon X Gen 2 arrive?

Qualcomm has not yet confirmed the launch date for the new Snapdragon X Gen 2 processors, but speculation suggests that their release may be just around the corner.

One possibility is that the processors could be unveiled at CES 2025, scheduled for January. Alternatively, Qualcomm might wait until Computex 2024 in May, held in Taiwan, to showcase the new CPUs.

Given that the Snapdragon Summit won’t take place until October 2025, it seems unlikely that Qualcomm would wait that long to introduce the processors, especially with competitors already outlining their plans. This makes an earlier reveal more plausible, as Qualcomm may want to stay ahead in the race.
