Radeon RX 9000 GPUs still to be announced by AMD in the “near future”

AMD’s RDNA 4 GPUs, which power the Radeon RX 9000 series, remain mysterious despite their initial reveal. The announcement was made subtly through slides during a closed-door press presentation, leaving enthusiasts with little to go on. However, AMD has confirmed that a proper announcement is on the horizon, though no specific details or timelines have been shared.

During a recent webinar hosted by AMD to discuss highlights from this year’s CES, company representatives addressed questions about the upcoming Radeon lineup. According to Donny Woligroski, AMD’s Technical Marketing Manager for Processors, CES was not deemed the appropriate stage for unveiling the new GPUs.

“All I can say about the Radeon 9000 is what we said is what we can say. We think they deserve their own time in the spotlight, and at CES, things can get kind of hidden beneath the sheer amount of information. So stay tuned! It won’t be long until you hear about it in the near future.”

AMD had already pointed to a later announcement of the Radeon RX 9000

This perspective aligns with comments from other AMD executives during CES 2025. In an interview with Tom’s Hardware, David McAfee and Frank Azor clarified that the absence of a detailed announcement at the event was not due to production challenges. They assured that a proper reveal is planned as the launch date approaches.

As of now, there is no confirmed release date for the Radeon RX 9000 series. AMD has only mentioned a first-quarter launch window, suggesting the release could happen anytime before March.

Interestingly, AMD appears to have shifted its strategy by stepping away from competing in the high-end GPU market, effectively leaving the segment to NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 series. This move may reflect a decision to prioritize other segments and reduce the urgency often associated with launching new products, a marked change from previous generations.
