For years, GeForce GPUs ending in “xx60” have dominated Steam’s hardware survey, and currently, the RTX 3060 leads the pack, with the newer RTX 4060 working to carve out its space. On the AMD side, the Radeon RX 6600 has finally surpassed the RX 580, claiming the top spot among AMD’s dedicated GPUs in the survey.
However, this achievement is more symbolic than significant, as the RX 6600 still holds less than a 1% share, placing it at 34th on the overall list. The margin by which it overtook the RX 580 is also minimal—just 0.01%—essentially making it a statistical tie.
Launched in 2017, the RX 580 quickly became a favorite among budget gamers based on AMD’s Polaris architecture. It held the title of AMD’s most popular dedicated graphics card on Steam’s survey since at least 2020. It’s worth noting, however, that AMD’s best-ranked GPU on the survey remains one of its integrated graphics solutions rather than a dedicated card.
Radeon RX 6600 is one of the most popular GPUs
The Radeon RX 6600 was launched in October 2021 as the top entry-level option in AMD’s RDNA 2 lineup before the release of the less powerful Radeon RX 6500 XT and RX 6400. Among these, the RX 6600 offers the best balance of performance and value.
One of the key attractions of the RX 6600 has been its price. Until mid-2024, the GPU was frequently available for around R$1,000 during sales, making it a fantastic deal for those seeking solid Full HD gaming performance. Currently, the lowest price you can find for the RX 6600 is about $1,300.
The RX 6600 competes with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3060, currently the most popular GPU among Steam users. Despite being an entry-level card, the RX 6600 delivers good results in demanding 1080p games, especially when paired with features like AMD FSR for performance boosts.
Having used the RX 6600 for a year between 2023 and 2024, I found it capable of handling many AAA titles smoothly. It remains an excellent option for gamers looking for solid performance without spending a fortune.
