Since its release in November, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D has seen massive demand across various markets, with some even selling out completely. Two months later, the hype hasn’t faded—sales remain strong, with the processor becoming a top seller at Germany’s largest hardware retailer, Mindfactory, moving nearly 9,000 units in a single day.
According to data from ComputerBase, Mindfactory sold approximately 8,700 AMD CPUs on New Year’s Day alone. By January 11, that number had skyrocketed to 14,160 units. To put it into perspective, the store was selling one unit of this “gaming king” roughly every two and a half minutes during the first days of January.
However, this surge in demand has driven up prices. Initially launched at €529, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is now selling for €589. Interestingly, Mindfactory has not yet released details about overall sales for other processors—something the retailer typically shares.
The future of Ryzen 9000X3D
AMD has acknowledged that it didn’t anticipate the overwhelming demand for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and attributes part of its success to the underwhelming performance of Intel’s Core Ultra 200 series. To meet this unexpected demand, the company is ramping up production and working to improve availability.
The lineup of Zen 5 CPUs featuring 3D V-Cache technology is set to grow soon. At CES 2025, AMD spotlighted two key additions: the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D. These processors come with 12 and 16 cores, along with a massive 140 MB and 144 MB of cache, respectively.
AMD is positioning the Ryzen 9 9950X3D as the new ultimate gaming processor, poised to take the crown from the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which currently holds the title as the best gaming CPU on the market.
