Ryzen AI Max for Notebooks: Performance Leaks Show Impressive GPU Capabilities

By Aayush

Unveiled at CES 2025, AMD’s Ryzen AI Max processors for notebooks have yet to be officially released. However, a leaked benchmark has revealed the impressive capabilities of the integrated GPU, Radeon 8060S, which delivers performance close to the Radeon RX 7600 and even surpasses the RX 7600M XT, AMD’s top RDNA 3 mobile GPU from the previous generation.

The tested APU, Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 395, codenamed “Strix Halo”, is AMD’s flagship mobile chip. It features 40 Compute Units (CUs) based on the RDNA 3.5 architecture and achieved an impressive 10,106 points in the 3DMark Time Spy graphics test—nearly matching the RTX 4060 laptop GPU, which averages around 10,400 points.

This result outperforms the RX 7600M XT (which scores 8,742 points) and puts the Radeon 8060S just 10% behind the Radeon RX 7600 XT, AMD’s current entry-level desktop GPU.

AMD states that Radeon 8060s surpasses RTX 4070 mobile

AMD has unveiled its latest Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 395 APU, claiming that its integrated GPU (iGPU) outperforms even the GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile, which itself is slightly more powerful than the RTX 4060 desktop GPU.

One crucial detail that remains unknown—neither mentioned in leaks nor AMD’s official announcements—is the APU’s TDP (Thermal Design Power), which will play a key role in determining efficiency and power consumption.

While synthetic benchmarks don’t always translate directly to real-world gaming performance, the early results are promising. This APU appears capable of delivering dedicated GPU-level graphics performance while consuming significantly less power, making it an ideal option for handheld gaming devices and power-efficient laptops.
