Samsung launches SSD 990 EVO Plus with a focus on energy efficiency

By Aayush

Samsung has unveiled the SSD 990 EVO Plus, a new M.2 NVMe SSD that supports PCIe 4.0 and boasts significant performance improvements. Utilizing 8th Generation V-NAND technology and a controller manufactured with 5 nm lithography, the drive delivers sequential read speeds of 7,250 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 6,300 MB/s, marking a 50% performance boost compared to its predecessor, the 990 EVO.

The 990 EVO Plus also includes nickel-coated protection to reduce overheating, ensuring stable performance during intensive workloads. Furthermore, Samsung reports a 73% increase in energy efficiency, making it a more power-conscious option in addition to its enhanced performance.

Up to 4TB of capacity

The Samsung 990 EVO Plus SSD has 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities and includes Samsung TurboWrite 2.0 technology. This feature enhances the SSD’s performance, enabling faster file transfers and reducing lag during intensive tasks.

Regarding performance, the 4TB model reaches random read speeds of up to 1,050K IOPS and random write speeds of up to 1,400K IOPS. These impressive figures position the 990 EVO Plus as a strong competitor to high-end DRAM memories, even though it operates without a dedicated DRAM cache.

With these capabilities, the 990 EVO Plus is suited for both heavy-duty applications and users looking for top-tier storage solutions with minimal lag and superior energy efficiency.
