Samsung is expanding its Galaxy AI’s real-time call translation feature to nine third-party apps, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Google Meet. Initially launched earlier this year, this feature was exclusive to calls made through Samsung’s dialer.
There were rumors that WhatsApp would integrate this tool, and Samsung confirmed this following the Galaxy Unpacked event last week. Additionally, Android Authority previewed the feature on Samsung’s new foldable devices, revealing the settings screen for activating it in various messaging apps.
Simultaneous Translation allows seamless conversation without language barriers. The AI in Galaxy smartphones listens to what each person is saying, translates the content in real time, and ensures both parties understand the conversation.
Apps that will receive the new feature
Samsung has confirmed that the following apps will support the feature:
- Google Meet
- Instagram DM
- KakaoTalk
- Line
- Signal
- Telegram
Thus, Galaxy AI’s translation feature now covers the leading messaging apps available on mobile phones. The inclusion of Signal might seem surprising, given its emphasis on conversation privacy.
However, it’s important to note that Instant Translation operates locally on the device and does not store conversations on external servers, ensuring that privacy is maintained.
What’s new in One UI 6.1.1
Translation support for more apps is expected to be included in the One UI 6.1.1 update. This update will launch alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 foldable, bringing additional AI features, such as a tool to transform images into drawings.
While there is no official schedule for the update’s distribution yet, here are some of the Samsung devices likely to receive these new features:
