How to Share Your Current location via Google Maps

By Aayush

You can easily share your current location with your contacts using Google Maps. This feature is quite handy and straightforward, but many users may not be aware of it. While commonly found in navigation apps, it’s not limited to them.

To use this feature, you must install Google Maps on your mobile device. Although sharing locations through the web version is possible, you can’t do it simultaneously. Interestingly, this feature works even if Location History is turned off.

When you share your current location, it includes your name and photo from your Google account, where you’re currently located, your mode of transportation (like if you’re driving or walking), details about your phone (such as battery level), as well as your saved places (like your home and work addresses).

1. Open Google Maps and click on the profile icon to the right of the search field. Then tap on the “Location Sharing”;

2. At the Bottom, you will get the option Share location. Click on that. With this action, you can select the contacts and applications displayed in the bar or use a quick link. In this tab, you can also choose the sharing time.

3. Once Done, Your location will be Shared.

If you want to stop sharing your location and prevent others from seeing where you are, follow these steps from the beginning. In the “Share by link” section, choose the “Stop” command to end the sharing process.

Additionally, you can also share a specific location using Google Maps. Just search for the location on the map; below the address, swipe the options to the left. Then, click on the “Share” command and send the information to the contacts you choose.
