Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor, an upgrade focused on enhancing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and overall performance. The improvements in AI are expected to particularly benefit tasks like physical activity tracking and noise cancellation during calls.
In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is similar to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, featuring a comparable CPU setup. It has 4x Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.4 GHz for high performance, along with 4x Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8 GHz, slightly lower than the 1.95 GHz found in the 7s Gen 2. For graphics, the processor includes an Adreno 710 GPU, which is also found in the 7s Gen 2.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 supports both older LPDDR4 RAM and the newer LPDDR5, though it only works with UFS 3.1 storage, unlike the more advanced UFS 4.0 standard available in higher-end devices.
It’s designed to handle Full HD+ screens with refresh rates up to 120 Hz, a slight downgrade from the 144 Hz supported by the 7s Gen 2. However, this difference is unlikely to be noticeable in most mid-range devices. The chip also supports cameras with up to 200 MP resolution, continuous shooting at 48 MP, and configurations with 32 MP and 16 MP sensors. In terms of connectivity, it offers Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E support.
While the first smartphones featuring the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 haven’t been announced yet, the processor is expected to appear soon in budget-friendly models.
