A leaked document has provided new details about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship chip for smartphones. Set to be unveiled later this year, the chip is expected to be manufactured using a 3nm process, offering enhanced performance and energy efficiency along with advanced connectivity features and a powerful AI system.
The document, shared by Smartprix, appears to confirm several features while revealing new details. One key detail is the model number, which indicates that there will be at least two versions: the standard SM8750 and the SM8750P. The SM8750P is expected to be exclusive to Samsung initially, offering higher performance before it becomes widely available as the “Leading Version.”
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be produced using 3nm technology, which promises significant improvements in power efficiency and processing speed. The choice of manufacturer—whether Samsung, which has been considered less advanced, or TSMC, which is currently leading with this technology—remains to be seen.
Additional features from the leak include support for 5G mmWave, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) for precise location tracking. The chip will also support LPDDR5X memory in a quad-channel configuration and boasts a range of AI capabilities powered by a built-in Neural Processing Unit (APU).
In terms of processing power, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is rumored to feature a dual-cluster configuration with two high-performance Oryon cores running at up to 4.1 GHz and six efficiency-focused Oryon cores at 2.8 GHz. Early benchmarks suggest that this setup could rival or even surpass some laptop chips, like Apple’s M3 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite.
The official reveal of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is scheduled for October 21 during the Snapdragon Summit 2024, where Qualcomm is also expected to showcase the first smartphones powered by the new platform. The Xiaomi 15 series is rumored to be among the first devices to feature this chip. As the announcement date approaches, more leaks and details are likely to emerge.
